Collette & Peter’s Classy-Meets-Disco Wedding

Sydney natives, Peter and Collette are lovers of the city so an urban wedding in the heart of Darlinghurst was so very ‘them’. The couple had originally planned to wed in a park at Elizabeth Bay, but with weather not permitting, they turned their stunning reception space at the National Art School into a makeshift ceremony and boy, did it look beautiful!

With Jo Bartholomew behind the lens, these two have some spectacular snaps to look back on and She Designs nailed their ‘classy with a bit of disco’ brief. “The Cell Block Theatre (at the National Art School) created the perfect blank canvas for She Designs to do their incredible work,” Collette tells us. “We were completely blown away by the stunning job they did and the dedication they showed in making our day within style but uniquely our own.”

In finding their venue, the pair wanted something original, local and special. The fact that the National Art School is in their neighbourhood was a bonus and the old sandstone building now has a lot of sentimental value for this pair. “We get a little buzz on our Saturday morning walks past the Art School,” Collette shares.

Collette was quite the resourceful bride when it came to the dress. She paired a sparkly sequinned Alannah Hill number with a Babushka Ballerina high-low skirt, creating her own one-of-a-kind style. Some metallic Kate Spade kicks and accessories by Samantha Wills completed this babe’s bridal look.

Not the lovey-dovey types, this couple needed a little help when it came to their ceremony and according to Collette, celebrant Sophie Coombes was a god-send. “Sophie has an incredible way of making the least romantic, most cynical couples develop the most glorious, sentimental and loving ceremonies. Encouraging us to write our own vows, she planned out an incredible ceremony.”

“Having an incredible team like Gallivant Catering meant we could trust them to ensure the food was seasonal, fresh and delicious," Collette shares. "It was served family-style in keeping with the general celebratory mood we wanted to set.” We're salivating at the spread!

We all know how important good music is when it comes to setting a mood and with the help of Sydney Wedding DJ’s, Collette and Peter were all over it. “We set the playlist, broken down into Arrival, Dinner and Dancing. We also had key songs to intro all the speakers.”
