Kerry & Brad’s Modern-Vintage wedding
“The two things I knew I didn’t want were to wear a white dress and to walk down an aisle,” says today’s unconventional bride. Her first wish was answered upon finding her utterly gorgeous beaded yellow dress – vintage Dior, circa 1960. Captured by Justin Hill, Kerry and Brad’s chic Melbourne wedding was the perfect meeting of modern-vintage.
Kerry’s rare vintage find was discovered at Madam Virtue, a small boutique stocking new and archive couture. “The service was amazing,” she says. “The owners Dean and JC did all the restoration and alternations, as there were a lot of pearls and Swarovski crystals to be re-beaded.”
The boutique also put Kerry in touch with Saphire, their hair and makeup artist, to create the perfect vintage look to complement her dress. Atop those stunning pin curl waves and affixed with a vintage brooch, she wore a 100 year-old antique birdcage veil from Chapel St Bazaar. In place of a bouquet, a yellow rose wrist corsage by Flowers Vasette completed her gorgeous ensemble.
With guests arriving from all corners of the globe, Kerry and Brad wanted to show off their home city at a CBD venue with a view; the Transit Rooftop Bar was a perfect fit. The pair greeted their guests on arrival, fulfilling the bride’s second wish to steer clear of the traditional bridal procession.
Their light-hearted ceremony was led by friend and celebrant, Nancy Cato. “Nancy is profoundly deaf, Kerry tells me. “She can lip read and hear some vibrations so it was amazing for her to do our special day.”
Live jazz and rooftop canapés were followed by a magnificent three course meal downstairs at Taxi Dining Room. “The food was breath taking!” says Kerry. “Our guests are still raving about the amazing quality.”
