Keeping things low-key and local was top of the agenda for Claire and Sam, who chose a lofty warehouse space in Adelaide’s north for their down-to-earth wedding. “It was important for us to find an empty shell, a venue where we could have complete creative control,” Claire tells us. “I had nightmares of polyester chair covers and organza sashes!”

While they admit they’re not a details-focussed couple, Claire and Sam certainly made their day their own, finding inspiration in two key words – Hospitality and Community. Claire explains “I read once that a wedding reception is a bride and groom’s first act of hospitality as a married couple. This drove a lot of the decisions we made: is this idea hospitable? Is it warm, is it welcoming?”

As for Community, the pair involved family and friends wherever they could. Sam’s family cooked up the canapés using beautiful produce from their local Adelaide Hills farms, while Claire’s stepdad designed the stationery and her mum officiated the ceremony!

And Mum played another key role, loaning the bride her gorgeous handmade vintage dress, bought in Mexico circa 1976. “I always knew I wanted to wear this dress’” says Claire, who paired the boho number with a fabulous native crown, foraged and created by her good friend Ann of Daisy Chains. Sam surprised Claire with a fantastic Jack London plaid and homemade suspender/bowtie combo. We love seeing a couples’ true style shine through on their wedding day, and how amazing did they look together? Especially against that pink diamond wall, gorgeously captured by their photographer Alex Kwong!

When it came to swapping rings, Claire and Sam took a different road to most, opting for ink over precious metal. “Our great friend and artist Jaya Suartika tattooed our ring fingers with the Braille symbols for love,” Claire explains. “We’re less into the flashiness of rings and more the permanency of tattoos.” Whoever said diamonds are forever hadn’t met Claire and Sam!
