Shaye & Ben’s 1000 £ Bend Wedding

October 10, 2014
It doesn’t get more Melbourne than an inner-city warehouse, tucked away in the graffiti-riddled laneways of the CBD. Urban was the vibe Shaye and Ben were chasing, so it’s lucky their first venue choice fell through, resulting in this seriously cool 1000 £ Bend wedding.
“We originally planned our wedding at Boyd Baker House,” they tell me, but plans went awry in the wake of complications. “This was a blessing,” they assure, “as we found Amelia of 1000 Pound Bend, and the venue itself, helped to curate a day that was more fun to organise and a better representation of us as a couple.”
The only other dilemma they encountered was trying to narrow down LJM Photography’s beautiful, candid snaps to one album. “Re-living the day through Lauren’s photos, all the feelings of nervous anticipation, emotion and just the thrill and the fun of the day come flooding back to us both,” says Shaye.
And by golly, wasn’t her Rachel Gilbert gown just something? “Finding the right dress was one of the most terrifying things on our to-do-list,” she admits. “I put it off for ages.” She grabbed this stunning, long-sleeved number off the rack. “As soon as I tried it on I knew it was the one.” Luck had struck again – it was the last dress left – while Ben brushed up oh-so-dapper in his Double Monk kicks.
Their guests ventured from far and wide, so they felt it only right to serve them a meal to remember. Blake’s Feast well and truly saw to that, also knocking out an “amazing cheese table” that trounced any need for a cake. “This worked so well,” the pair say, “we received many hung-over texts of thanks the day after.”
When it came to the big day, Pomp and Splendour brought the blooms, while some crafty hen’s day action and help from many a beloved interstater sorted the decorations. One friend in particular, the “very creative and talented Lucy Clift” flew from Sydney to don Creative Director and Stylist caps. Lucy, Nouba applauds you.
