With the Sarah’s family hailing from the UK and Doug growing up by the Adelaide seaside, this wedding was a combination of ocean vibes and English garden class. No stranger to a beach fiesta, Beck Rocchi was there to capture it all.
Beck’s photography skills have gained her some big fans in Sarah and Doug, “Beck is the most incredible photographer.” Sarah says, “She captured our day down to a T and was such a beautiful energy to have around.” It’s hard to pick favourites but we can’t go past the golden hour snaps of this adorable couple on the beach. You’re making us melt guys!
The ceremony itself was held at Soldiers Point Memorial Gardens at Port Elliot. Not the type for lovey-dovey, soppy stuff, when it came to writing vows, Sarah and Doug thoroughly consulted their lovely celebrant and Sarah’s high-school teacher, Jude Hines “After about 500 emails to and from our celebrant we finally agreed on what was perfect for us.”
Nestled amongst lush foliage, the Middleton Beach Huts definitely exuded the Byron Bay-esque feel that Sarah and Doug were after, as well as being convenient accommodation for all the guests. White wicker furniture from Atlas Events and festoon lights created a relaxed, summery ambiance and stylists Nikki and Danni of Sash Events kept to the informal theme with colourful rugs and comfy cushions.
When it came to finding the perfect dress, it was love at first sight – “All I knew is I didn’t want a traditional princess dress that looks like a meringue.” Sarah says. Whether you prefer to eat your meringues or wear them, you can’t deny that Sarah was quite the bohemian beauty in her stunning and streamline Anaessia number. Topped off with a flower crown courtesy of Adelaide Flower House, this barefoot bride was the absolute embodiment of Byron Bay, while Doug was dapper in a combination of Politix and Jack London.
This bride was blessed with an expert hair and makeup team – Mary Calandro Makeup Studio dolled everyone up and the couple’s good friend Trav of Travis Hairdressing took on the tresses. Trav managed to style the hair of 13 women before the ceremony and comes highly recommended by Sarah “He was a machine! He gets everything right on the first go and there’s no stuffing around,” she says.
Not only did Adelaide Flower House crown Sarah and her bridesmaids, they also took care of the gorgeous arrangements and bouquets. With a fire engine as their vehicle of choice, these lovebirds and their bridal party traveled in style. Doug’s other one true love also made an appearance on the day – his Datsun 1200, but even with his beloved car present, it’s clear that Doug only had eyes for Sarah.
