Cat and Ben’s Southwest Garden Wedding

May 11, 2015
Replacing the first dance with a bridal party rendition of Mr Big’s “To Be With You” was just one example of how Cat and Ben put a unique stamp on their big day. Captured by CJ Williams, their stunning Southwest wedding was hosted at the idyllic Aravina Estate.
The Yallingup venue turned out to be a brilliant choice. “We were blown away by Aravina’s attentiveness and excellent attention to detail in the lead up to the day,” says Cat. “They provided the most amazing food, wine, and of course natural setting.” The ceremony played out in the Estate’s picturesque grounds beneath a magnificent floral arbor. Flowers were a top priority for Cat, who raves about the work of Tracey Finney from Bespoke Wedding Flowers, who did an amazing job styling the venue with bold, jewel-toned blooms.
In keeping with the elegance of the venue, Cat wore a silk low-slung backless gown from Hobnob Bridal with a custom headpiece by Bride La Boheme. Ben made a dashing groom in Hugo Boss.
While gifted in the music department, it was academia that brought these two together. Ben is a research fellow and Cat works as a Clinical Psychologist. “We met in 2009 while we were both studying psychology,” Cat explains. “Ben helped supervise my research and was very supportive… I fell in love with his brains, kindness and happy smile. We also shared a love of music. Ben plays the guitar and I like to sing… We bonded over our love of acoustic music.”
After a romantic proposal involving horse riding, a tree house, wine and cheese on Cat’s aunt and uncle’s farm, the couple decided to marry in the southwest region of WA. “The inspiration for our wedding was partly just the beauty and energy of the southwest of WA. We love the place so much, it is majestic and beautiful, and it holds so many precious memories for us both.”
Cat recalls one of the most special parts of the day. “Ben surprised me by playing a song for me during the reception – ‘Hearts On Fire’ by Passenger. Ben is really nervous about singing in front of anyone, including me, so I was brought to tears when he took to the stage.” We have no doubt Ben will continue to serenade his beautiful bride for many years to come!
