A graphic designer and skate shop owner, Kelly and Chris are already killing it in the cool department and their middle-of-nowhere wedding was no exception. A secluded Scout Hall in Frenchs Forest (north of Sydney) was ideal for the big outdoor party they had in mind and Studio Something captured these sweethearts – and their beloved pups – making it official!

“We knew straight away that a traditional wedding wasn’t really our style,” Kelly says of their low key venue. “It was in the middle of the bush, quiet and had different areas we could use for the ceremony and reception. It needed a LOT of love, but I could tell immediately that this was exactly what Chris had imagined, and a place that he felt really comfortable in – which was ultimately what mattered most to me.”

The pair are no strangers to a little DIY – both are involved in theatre, which initially meant they’d had their fair share of DIY-ing and would rather have someone else do it for them. Fast forward a few months and Kelly was crafting EVERYTHING, from signs, invitations, the archway and even the flowers! With native greenery courtesy of Mother Nature, the addition of a little lace, balloons and a whole lotta’ sparkle made for a colourful and quirky party.

Staying true to herself was important and Kelly’s two-piece ensemble from The Babushka Ballerina had her name written all over it. “As soon as I tried my skirt, I was done. The blush, the length, the tulle, the petals… I was ready to swish my way straight to the wedding!”

DIY-ing the native flowers was our bride's biggest challenge but she enjoyed it all the same. “I’m definitely not a florist and I had only done one trial run, but in the end I was really pleased with how they looked… even if getting up at 4am the day before the wedding made for one of the most stressful days of my life!!!”

Sporting khaki shorts and a crisp white shirt, Chris’ floral ASOS bow tie added a little elegance to his smart-casual attire.

Chris is quite the tatted-up groom and the couple decided everyone else should get their ink on too! We had a tattoo station!” Kelly tells us. “We designed a series of temporary tattoos (with Amazing Raymond) that represented us as a couple (and maybe also one of my dog Rocky…), and it didn’t take long for everyone to be covered in them!”

Having talented friends is always a good thing, especially when one of them knows how to make a cake like this! “One of my bridesmaids made her own spectacular wedding cake last year,” explains Kelly, “so when she offered to make mine I readily accepted, and she did the most amazing job."

"Our photographers were amazing!" Says Kelly of Studio Something. "I hate having my photo taken and always feel self-conscious, but Averie made it seem like the easiest thing in the world. She and Josh also had no problem dealing with our crazy dogs, the weird dirt road we found near-by, or the skateboard session that Chris had planned for the middle of the wedding!”
