In a ceremony filled in equal parts with smiles and tears, Northsiders, Jayne and Cam (and Panda the pug) tied the knot in Melbourne’s beautiful Fitzroy Gardens on a perfect summer’s day. After a post-ceremony picnic (complete with cocktails, water pistols and 300 temporary tattoos) the party continued at Playroom, an industrial-style space above the couple’s local Fitzroy haunt, Brother Burger and the Marvellous Brew. Nouba favourite, Briars Atlas was there there to capture the day in all its awesomeness.
Inspired by their bathroom tiles (of all things!) Jayne and Cam’s wedding took on a slight geometric theme. Jayne ran a few crafternoons to get on top of her many DIY projects, which included making hundreds of octahedron paper gems for the ceremony backdrop, as well as constructing the arbour and signage and making little chip packets for ceremony snacks.
Jayne unfortunately went through quite an ordeal to find her gorgeous dress. After a series of wedding dress nightmares (involving a dip-dye disaster and an online purchase that fell seriously short of its promise) Jayne found her saviour in Jennifer from pre-loved bridal boutique, Love Me Twice. With less than a week before the wedding, Jennifer bent over backwards to help the panicked bride find her dream dress, even taking the chosen gown with her on a weekend holiday to make some last-minute alterations (which involved ‘messing-up’ the perfect skirt to better align with Jayne’s leftfield tastes). While Jayne hadn’t envisaged wearing white at her wedding, she was thrilled with her dress and admits she owes Jennifer big time!
Jayne and Cam spent many months looking for the perfect venue, and finally found it right under their nose. As regulars of Brother Burger, the Playroom above it proved to be ideal for their reception, where the owners were flexible to their ideas and let the party continue til 1am. The couple booked funk band, Mondo Freaks after seeing them play at The Night Cat one weekend. Cam secretly arranged to surprise Jayne by jumping on the drums to play “In the air tonight” by Phil Collins which led into “Let’s Dance” by David Bowie. Amusingly, Jayne also arranged to surprise Cam by jumping onstage for a bit of “Gangsta’s Paradise” – a tune that she and Cam had sung together at karaoke years before they were a couple. When the reception leg of the party finally wound down, the after party fittingly continued at K-Box Karaoke. Amazing effort guys.
