Kali & Adam’s Bang Bang Boogaloo Wedding

Despite an expectation to have a traditional Greek wedding, Melbourne natives Kali and Adam were intent on making the day their own. Settling on two industrial venues, the pair went for a contemporary city vibe, and Kat and Scout of It’s Beautiful Here were there to capture the fun.

With its faded patina, exposed bricks and glittering disco ball, the quirky Church of Bang Bang Boogaloo was the perfect spot to say I do. The hidden inner-city chapel was decked out with fairy lights and richly hued floral garlands handcrafted by Raven and the Rose, creating a warmth and ambience, every bit as charming as Adam and Kali had hoped. Industry pal Sam of events studio Balencia Lane was happy to lend a hand, and together she and Kali worked some styling magic.

With a cool and quintessentially Melbourne space ticked off for the ceremony, the reception venue had to follow suit and Kali happened upon Ellis Street Studio during an intense wedding research sesh. The South Yarra space was the perfect blank canvas – intimate but with plenty of room for a boogie. Tick and tick!

When it came to flowers, Kali had visions of rich plums, burgundies, pinks and greens. All of her lush floral dreams became a reality thanks to Ame of Raven & the Rose. “Everyone commented on the florals and it really was the highlight of all the style detail that went into the wedding.”

Kali has never been about the ‘puff and frou-frou’ life and her wedding day was no exception. “I knew I wanted a modern but timeless style so as soon as I saw my dress, I was transfixed.” The dress in question was a structured, figure-hugging gown by Carla Zampatti, with capped sleeves and mesh detailing. A bit out of the box according to Kali, but box or not, she looked babin’.

The bridesmaids' brief was crisp, clean and white and Keepsake the Label delivered. Each of the gals sported a golden ‘Bride Tribe’ temporary tattoo on the day (courtesy of Daydream Prints), an ode to the fact that Kali couldn’t have done it without them.

Kat and Scout of It’s Beautiful Here never disappoint and these newlyweds aren’t the first to sing their praises. “They were down to earth, no fuss and their work was beautiful!” Kali tells us. “They are the utmost professionals whist being fantastically fun and unobtrusive. We can’t thank them enough for the effort they went to and the fabulous locations they scouted.”

“Food is incredibly important to both Adam and I and this was the one thing that we weren’t going to compromise on,” says Kali. “We wanted a rich, hearty, comfort/sharing style menu at the table so everyone could choose what they wanted. Andrew and the team at Blake’s Feast were the bomb!”

We were already salivating over Kali and Adam’s three-tier naked cake and that was before we discovered that this beauty is in fact Golden Gaytime inspired! Enough said. Miss Ladybird Cakes, we applaud you.

Bianco Latte served up homemade gelato from their little cart, and needless to say it went down a storm. "It was like a stampede as soon as everyone caught onto the fact there was a Gelato Cart in the venue and they absolutely loved the idea!”
