Best of 2020: Bridal Gowns

Words by Lucy Wright
January 5, 2021

Usually when we round up the year’s best bridal, it’s easy to see the top trends shine through. But 2020 was, of course, a little different. Downsized weddings saw many brides opt for simpler, not-so-bridal designs, while pre-COVID brides sported the structural styles and lace-driven numbers popular in 2019.

We loved seeing savvy brides think a little laterally in 2020, swapping out the dream dress for a smaller purchase, like dream shoes or a killer hat. Some of our favourite looks included high street styles dialled up with high fashion accessories and some statement blooms.

That’s not to say that there weren’t some seriously stunning bridal gowns from the year that was. Continuing our best of 2020 series, here are the top gowns, jumpsuits and skirt-top combos that you guys loved the most!

Cass’s blazer mini

Cass paired things right back for her elopement with Luke. She went for a short blazer dress (ASOS) with a felt hat (Smoky Mountain), pearl veil (Blue Sky Horizons) and gorgeous Loeffler Randall shoes. Catch the style savvy duo here.

Megan’s pink and red combo

Wanting to look and feel comfortable, Megan designed her dream skirt with Ginger and Gold and paired it with a simple pink sweater from Trenery and a gold headpiece from Morgan and Taylor. See Megan and Mark’s pink and red wedding here.

Suzie’s minimal silk gown

With its open midriff and minimal design, the Prea James ‘Cara’ gown was a popular one for Aussie brides in 2020. Suzie found hers at the Hope x Page boutique in Sydney and wore it beautifully with loose locks and a floor-length pearl veil. See Suzie and James’ day here.

Georgia’s modern gown with floral print

Georgia wore the ‘Splendid’ gown by Suzanne Harward and we’re obsessed with that oversize floral print. The modern design tied in seamlessly with Georgia and Adam’s urban rooftop wedding, which you can catch in full here.
