Best of 2017: Bridal Fashion

Unique was the new norm for bridal fashion in 2017 and Nouba brides kept us on our toes with unexpected styles throughout the year. Continuing with our Best of series, we look back at the most popular wedding dresses from the year that was.

Bridal trends that stood out were minimal silhouettes, plunging necklines, floral appliqué, blush and subtle colours, statement sleeves and off-shoulder designs.

We rarely saw the same dress twice and many brides eschewed the wedding dress altogether, opting instead for non-bridal styles by long-coveted designers (what better time to make that indulgent purchase?)

We could have included way more incredible brides in 2017’s best of, but for more inspiration be sure to stop by our Pinterest board and check out our amazing bridal designers on the Directory.

Best of 2017: Wedding dresses | blush gown by Wendy Makin
A white wedding dress wasn't Maggie's style, so when she spotted a blush Wendy Makin gown in Hope X Page, she knew it was the one. Captured by Gui Jorge, catch Maggie and Grant’s Watsons Bay wedding here.
Best of 2017: Wedding dresses | Gwendoylnne gown with floral headpiece
A chunky gold belt and an epic floral headdress by Good Grace & Humour were the perfect accessories to this bride’s dreamy Gwendolynne gown. Image by Gold & Grit from this styled shoot.
Best of 2017: Wedding dresses | off-shoulder cape gown by Carla Zampatti
Would you believe Sara's incredible Carla Zampatti cape dress was wedding dress Plan B?! Captured by Justin Aaron, she and Kye tied the knot in Sydney's Rose Bay. See their stylish day here.
Best of 2017: Wedding dresses | brides both wear Judy Copley Couture
Kat and Kirsten both looked stunning in Judy Copley Couture, snapped by Capture The Moment from this whimsical styled shoot.
Best of 2017: Wedding dresses | modern geometric lilac gown by Georgia Young Couture
From the structured geometric cutouts the eyelash lace cuffs, we love every unique detail of Georgia's lilac gown. Designed of course by the bride herself - Georgia Young. She and Adam threw a fab camping wedding captured by Paper & Light Photography which you can see in full here.
Best of 2017: Wedding dresses | blush floral wedding dress by Hera Couture
With its plunging neckline, delicate floral embellishments and full tulle skirt, we're hardly surprised this blush gown by NZ's Hera Couture was one of 2017's most popular wedding dresses. Image by Sweet Events Photography from this styled shoot.
Best of 2017: Wedding dresses | long sleeve geometric wedding dress by Grace Loves Lace
Featuring geometric lace and a bold diamond cutout at the back, Pia's long sleeve wedding dress by Grace Loves Lace was the only one she tried on. With Nectarine Photography behind the lens, Pia and Dave's backyard bash can be seen in full here.
Best of 2017: Wedding dresses | floral wedding dress
Leisa instantly fell in love with this long sleeved floral gown by James Coviello, which suited her cosy winter wedding by Lauren Campbell perfectly. See it in full here.
