Peta & Gerard’s Modern Wedding at Carriageworks

There’s no better foundation for a strong relationship than a firm friendship and Peta and Gerard were pals long before they found love. The pair met during a night on the town and if their Carriageworks wedding (photographed by Justin Aaron) is anything to go by, this fairytale couple have one helluva stylish happily-ever-after to look forward to.

After swapping vows at Gerard’s old school stomping ground, St Patricks Chapel, the wedding party headed to fashion and culture hub, Carriageworks to party on. ‘Contemporary Urban Romance’ was the official theme, orchestrated by Lisa Madigan, and Peta and Gerard have nothing but praise for their stylist extraordinaire. “We had no idea where to start so we enlisted the help of the uber talented Lisa Madigan.” Shares Peta. “Lisa is quite simply a genius. We were so thrilled that she did what she did for us.”

Lisa tailored everything, from the lighting, to the tablescape, the floral installations to the finer details, such as each guest’s name being scrawled onto the tablecloth – place-cards are so 2016. With such a fab setting, there was no doubt going to be dancing and according to the newlyweds, three piece band Master Blaster had everybody on their feet.

What's good for the bride is good for her bridesmaids - Peta wears Ellery and so do her girls, coupling their modern shift dresses with chunky Black Mule heels from The Iconic.

They say diamonds are a girl’s best friend but we’d by far prefer a pal who is a jeweller – Peta and Gerard are lucky enough to friends with Wade Taranto, so who better to bring their wedding band dreams to life?

Upping the ante, Peta paired her bell-sleeve Ellery number with Celine kicks, while Gerard matched her in the style stakes in a bespoke Prince of Wales check suit and Tom Ford double bow tie.

Another wedding, another pair of newlyweds worshipping at Justin Aaron's feet - “He’s the best photographer there is. We might be biased but seriously his work is incredible.” Shares Peta. “The way he’s able to capture candid, natural moments with such ease is incredible. We get immense joy pouring over our moments that Justin captured so wonderfully. We will happily do so for years to come.”

Carriageworks was an easy choice for the couple’s reception, not only is it an iconic Sydney landmark, but the pair spent countless Saturdays meandering through the Farmers Markets in the early days of the courtship.

With a focus on sharing, Cook & Waiter crafted a three course feast for the wedding party and paired with some good booze, the whole thing went down a treat! “We wanted our wedding to feel like a big dinner party we would have at home only with way better food than I could cook and in a way more awesome location.”
