When a wedding includes both an oyster shucking station and 130 Maccas cheeseburgers, something has definitely gone right! Captured by Flossy Photography, Christal and Jean-Marc combined a sleek aesthetic with traditional customs, and left plenty of room to let loose. These two classmates were definitely not high-school sweethearts (‘Dork’ and ‘Mumma’s boy’ were mentioned), but when Christal took a job at Jean-Marc’s family restaurant at 17, friendship flourished. It wasn’t too long before the couple fell crazy in love, and 9 years later, Jean-Marc popped the question with an epic surprise proposal party of 150 friends and family! We get the feeling he was confident he’d get a yes.

The day began at Saint Columbia Catholic Church in South Perth, where the ceremony was conducted by their high school Parish Preist. Christal shares a sweet detail, “As we were having a Catholic mass ceremony with traditional vows, Jean-Marc and I wrote personal vows (created on clear acrylic by Sketch and Etch Creative) which we read before we met each other at the church. It was a moment that we will forever cherish and have a keepsake from it.”

The party kicked off at the South of Perth Yacht Club, with canapes, cocktails and Black Pearl Oyster Shucking, before moving into the marquee. With 200 guests, the bride’s brother served as MC to get the crowd into the party mood. Christal shares, “We created a“Yam-Seng” crew (Yam-Seng is a toast/bottoms up, very traditional in Chinese culture during celebratory events. It is yelled and chanted by all guests. The longer and louder the chant, the more prosperous it is!). This really brought our Asian culture and background, and our personalities together.” The rest of the night was spent on the dance floor, with Blacktop Official providing the tunes, and espresso martinis keeping up the energy – before the sneaky delivery of cheeseburgers capped off the evening.
