Toneya & Lochlan’s Modern Melbourne Wedding at Rupert on Rupert

A moody midnight palette with berry-hued blooms set the tone for Lochlan and Toneya’s modern wedding at Rupert on Rupert. A wedding videographer himself, Lochlan is used to recommending photographer Leo Farrell to his couples, so the decision to have him capture their own day came naturally.

After falling for Rupert on Rupert in Collingwood over an afternoon wine, the pair were set for the venue of both the ceremony and reception. Calling on northside’s Grown Florist, dramatic arrangements of violet and dark red blooms added to the rich colour palette. With natural light streaming through the glass ceiling, greenery and contemporary décor; the need for styling was minimal, with the couple only bringing in signage and pops of brass to complement the venue’s striking aesthetic.

Keeping the celebration relaxed and fun was top priority for these two. “It was a stand-up cocktail style wedding with plenty of seating. We loved this as we were able to maximise the time for some serious dancing.” With talented musicians already in their contacts, all they had to do was reach out. Timmy Knowles provided acoustic tunes, while friend Cherry Love worked the decks keeping guests on their feet well into the night.

Toneya paired her off the shoulder, bell sleeve dress by Rachel Gilbert, with Windsor Smith heels for a gorgeous modern bridal look. A flower crown of soft pinks and reds by Grown Florists and black diamond earrings added a little colour and sparkle.

Lochlan had witnessed celebrant Russ Macumber when working as a videographer at a wedding, and knew from then on that he wanted to be married by him. “You know you've found your celebrant when you connect instantly. The guy is an absolute legend. We felt as though we knew Russ from way back. The conversations were seamless and the interview process was a lot of fun, just the way we wanted it.”

Lochlan incorporated the colour theme of the day into his outfit, wearing a Teal velvet jacket by Politix, and floral bowtie by Declic. “We wanted something a little different, we are both not into anything too traditional or classic.”

We’re obsessed with Toneya’s berry-toned bouquet of with that perfect king protea, orchids and trailing plum amaranth by the talented Melbourne flower-smiths at Grown Florists.

After meeting at a wedding they worked together, Lochlan and photographer Leo Farrell “just clicked” and went on to work together again and again. There was no question that Leo would be the one to capture the day.

Toneya and Lochlan opted for a photo booth from Shutter Hub to capture some fun moments with their friends and family. “They were amazing quality images and the set up wasn't tacky like some we've seen. The turnaround for the online gallery was impressive so we were able to share these on Facebook pretty much instantly.”
