James & Phoebe’s Chilled Country Garden Wedding

These lovebirds figured it out early on – “a wedding isn’t just about the bride and groom, but also about everyone who’s been important in our lives” – so banded together their beloveds (and, most importantly, their many talents) for this very chic, very chilled country garden wedding, gorgeously captured by Jo Bartholomew.

Phoebe’s family farm in the Southern Highlands set the scene and the theme. “We didn’t really have a particular style we were going for,” she tells me, “but it was a wedding in a country garden, so it just sorted itself out!” As did much of the prep – thanks to their crafty crew. Friends and family saw to the hand-painted signs, seating chart, menus and hand-stamped place cards (swing tags on each chair, we noticed – very nice!)

Their wedding cake was a joint effort – one chocolate and ganache tier from Phoebe’s aunt and two traditional fruit tiers from dad (Grandma’s recipe, no less). Not to be outdone, James’ family rustled up the table arrangements, under the guidance of Phoebe’s close buddy Amelia (of The Flower Era), who “did an amazing job with the bouquets and boutonnieres.”

This no muss, no fuss bride had some difficulty finding a frock that took her fancy, but stumbled across this beauty at George, “which wasn’t a wedding dress,” she says – could have fooled us! “A good family friend made a few changes to turn it into the dress just for me.”

Her bridesmaids prettied up in Donna Morgan, with individualised bracelets from etsy store Silver Linings by JKB. James also got his etsy on – his hands, that is, with a ring from Point No Point Studio and scrabble-piece cufflinks from My Poppy and Willow, which he teamed with the spiffiest of bow-ties from Forage – “a delightful Philadelphia-based haberdashery.”

This pair adored all of their vendors, and were particularly smitten with the lady behind the lens. “The photos Jo took are absolutely beautiful,” they say “she managed to capture what a love-fest it was!” She also put together one heck of a wedding album, “which is absolutely stunning – but it was so hard to choose the photos because they were all so good!” Aren’t they just?
