With its vibrant Bedouin style tent and vegan food galore, we are head over heels for the colourful details of Caitlin and Johnny’s festival wedding at Countrywide Cottages in the Otway Ranges, captured by Stories by Ash.

Caitlin, a pet portrait photographer, explains their choice of wedding venue: “Soon into planning, we decided that we would love to host a bush camping weekend to celebrate our marriage. Countrywide Cottages is a doggy-friendly getaway set in the gorgeous Otways. I’ve been photographing the four-legged guests there for years, so we knew that it had the space, the look and bonus points because it was safe to bring our own dog Lyra.”

The couple, who met in Year 8, describe the theme they were aiming for as “laidback camping festival”, and with plenty of party games, a bouncy castle and ice blocks served pre-ceremony, they definitely nailed it.

Family and friends came together to help with various DIY projects including sewing hundreds of metres of bunting, creating a photo wall, painting and decorating a camper van and crafting favours and table numbers. These touches complemented props hired from Peppa and Peach to create a setting that was both unique and festive.

Johnny reveals, “I’m so happy that our wedding reflected us. Every decision we made, all the details were there because we wanted them, because they portrayed some part of our character. It made the day more special for us, and I would say also for our guests who might get to see a side of us that they haven’t before.”

Caitlin’s dress from Karen Willis Holmes with its fitted lace bodice and full skirt was like something out of a fairy tale. “I wanted something that had a boho feel to it with different textures, but still with structure and a big skirt because dammit, I’m a bride and I want to be a princess!”

As animal lovers, Caitlin and Johnny decided to go vegan for their big day, with a range of vendors including picnic baskets from Annie’s Provedore and food trucks Dos Diablos and Sweet Forbidden Treats dishing out some seriously delicious vegan food.
