Holly and Stuart’s DIY Eumundi Wedding

Holly and Stuart put on one heck of a shindig for their New Years Eve wedding, running a-muck with photographer Kristina Childs in the laidback small Noosa town of Eumundi. The pair splashed their day with a rainbow of vibrant, DIY details, welcoming a New Year and new chapter in what they’ve dubbed “the best party we’ll ever have.”

While undoubtedly a far more sophisticated affair, their celebration was a little nod to the couples’ first meeting – as teens first locking eyes at a university party, and courting at the local pub. “There was a dance floor, bad music and a few long island ice teas involved,” laughs Holly.

Their wedding date “brought a big factor of celebration”, of which they took full advantage. “We wanted something were we were not restricted by get out times,” she says “and didn’t cost an arm and a leg.” They also knew better than to trust the Queensland summer, choosing the shelter of the “super cute” CWA Hall for their ceremony, which was conducted by our favourite tattooed celebrant, Paul Voge. They made it their own with homemade bunting, a ribbon backdrop and jars of flowers hand-picked from the properties of friends and family.

A marquee reception at the Eumundi Winery (conveniently owned by Stuart’s aunt and uncle) was to follow, their guests bibbing-up to devour a banquet from Native Sun Food. “I’m still drooling from the fish tacos,” says Holly, and they chased this favourite dish with finger lickin’ good ribs and prawns with dirty rice, sweet potatoes and beans.

She danced through the day in a breathtaking boho-creation from Jane Hill. “Deep down I knew she would make my dress,” says Holly, despite having put a blue gown on layby.  One try of a sample from Jane quickly changed her mind, but she still found her colour fix with a gorgeous flower crown from Twig and Blossom.

The day was filled with personal touches – from Holly’s surprise of a vintage Rolex for Stuart (the perfect alternative for blokes not keen on rings), her mother’s collection of wishbones and relish favours made from her late pop’s recipe. A pre-wedding working bee brought it all together. “Overall it was a lot of work,” admits Holly, “but doing it this way meant spending time with everyone, and also meant we could appreciate every single detail.”
