After lockdown forced a reschedule of their Melbourne wedding in October, Katherine and Will got to work planning (and crossing fingers) for their new date in December, 2020. The couple agreed they would go ahead with their Fitzroy Gardens nuptials whether they were allowed 10 guests or 50. Luckily, as restrictions eased, the guest list grew, and their day was just how they imagined – relaxed and surrounded by loved ones. Photographers Kat and Scout from It’s Beautiful Here captured the couple’s super chill vibe while showing off the gardens in all their natural glory… with a little help from Bloomboy’s epic florals.

The Dress

Katherine kept things modern and minimal in Stella McCartney, paired with statement earrings and her mum’s vintage Glomesh bag. Hair and makeup wiz Livia Milazzo added a pop of red to the bride’s lips to tie in with her bouquet, while hair was pulled back in a perfect chic-but-chill top knot. Kat’s Bailey Nelson white cat-eye sunglasses came out post-ceremony, adding a fun element that tied in perfectly with the relaxed vibe of the day.

A first look felt totally right for Katherine and Will, and their photographers, It’s Beautiful Here, captured this moment (and every moment) perfectly. “Kat and Scout were legends,” shares Katherine. “They made us feel so comfortable all day and captured the vibe of the party so well.”

The flowers

Bloomboy wove his floral magic with statement red and pink florals that popped against the greenery of the gardens. When asked about her experience with the Melbourne florist, Katherine told us he was terrific. “I had seen some bouquets Bloomboy had previously done so I had an idea and he just brought it to life perfectly,” says Katherine. “So helpful with suggestions and matching bouquets and the boys’ buttonholes.”

The ceremony

The couple had no trouble picking a place to say I Do, since Fitzroy Gardens were where the two had their first date. Not only did this mean the location felt extra special for its sentimental value, but it could also act as their backdrop, no decorations necessary. “After everything that happened in 2020 we just wanted it to be really relaxed and fun,” explains Katherine. “We didn’t walk down the aisle or anything like that, we arrived together with our families and bridal party and had a drink before kicking off the ceremony.”

Food and wine

With a restaurant reception off the table (cheers Covid) Katherine and Will, opted for a garden soiree instead. “As soon as the ceremony was finished, we had Montenegro spritzes and the canapes started,” recalls Katherine. Good food and wine were essential for these foodies, who chose Union Street Wine to provide the booze, and Cookes Food to dish up the eats and bring their alfresco dining vision to life. And it sounds like the pair made the right choice. “We had some idea of how we wanted it to look, but Cookes coordinated everything and made it all happen.”
