The Grounds of Alexandria’s exposed brickwork and leafy hanging gardens provided a unique setting for Rene and Dan’s back-to-basics wedding. And a Day were there to capture the pair, and what a day it was! A perfect afternoon that turned into a perfect night, under the festoon lights and darkening sky.
As many modern-day romances go, the couple met through mutual friends, and the proposal went down one weekend in the Blue Mountains. Dan booked a surprise bush camping trip, but it was no ordinary camp-out. The two spent the night ‘glamping’ in a luxurious tent, and by next morning were engaged.
It was a case of second time lucky for Rene’s hunt for the perfect dress. After discovering US designer Sarah Seven online, this bride-to-be flew solo to the only Australian stockist – Melbourne’s The Bridal Atelier. There she fell in love with the second dress she tried on – a simple, vintage style gown. In keeping with the slightly yester-year theme, hair and makeup artist Dotty Russell dolled up the flame-haired bride in a 50s-inspired do, while Dan was decked out in stylish, dark blue MJ Bale.
Officiated by modern Sydney celebrant, Laura Craddock, the day was a simple, stripped-back affair with a few vintage vibes. Friends and fam were spared extra travel time, as both the ceremony and reception took place at The Grounds. and according to Rene, it was a wise decision. “Our venue was amazing at organising all the details and letting us know what our options were.”
Indeed, the Grounds took care of all the styling on the day, along with the cake and catering. Onsite florist, Florals by Silva, ensured an abundance of blossoms, while Rene (aided by a little Pinterest inspiration) tried her hand at some DIY bomboniere, with each guest taking home a neatly labeled test tube filled with loose-leaf tea.
If the photos hint at anything, its that these two know how to throw a party! We doubt The Grounds have seen a dance-floor quite so lively as Rene and Dan’s.
