Jen & Pete’s Hawthorn Common Wedding

Marriage was never a priority for London-based pair, Jen and Pete. They preferred to travel and when faced with an ultimatum – get engaged or move overseas together– Jen picked the trip. To her surprise, Pete proposed anyway and they planned their Aussie wedding from the other side of the world!

“The main idea was a Sunday night drink, dinner and dance with the people we love,” Jen says of their laid back wedding, “and it turned out to be exactly that.” The deck at Hawthorn Common was perfect for this cool couple’s inner-city vows and hosting the entire day there meant a seamless transition from ceremony to reception.

The party vibe continued throughout the day and well into the night (Jen’s 103 year-old great aunt was the last to leave the dancefloor!) and Jen and Pete were pleased as punch to have the duo behind It’s Beautiful Here on hand to capture it all. “Scout and Kat were just such a pleasure and are highly recommended. Super highly recommended. Having 2 photographers was key.”

An unconventional bride, Jen never wanted a white wedding and what better way to break tradition than in midnight blue Balenciaga. Paired with towering embellished Miu Miu heels, this statuesque beauty couldn’t be more glam!

Jen tells us that their quirky celebrant Jon von Goes went down a storm. "He was an absolute hoot! Tons of personality and sincerity. He made the ceremony really joyous with his words."

The bridesmaids also channeled Jen’s glamorous look, in shoulder-baring black Kookai dresses. Have you ever set eyes on a more stylish bridal party?

The flowers at this wedding were a family affair – literally, the bride and groom’s dear friends Alice, Lou and Fleur MacFarlane are responsible for those burgundy blooms. Lush!

“The owners at Hawthorn Common took care of us like it was their own second wedding! They looked after everything,” Jen tells us. “Our guests commented that it was the best wedding food they have ever eaten. It was just what we wanted – simple and oh-so-delicious.”
