Emma & John’s Melbourne Northside Wedding

It was a game of thumb war at a favourite bar that sparked this Melbourne love story. Hit fast forward and another local haunt saw Emma and John make things official, under the exposed beams and pendant lights of Brunswick’s lofty East Elevation.

Keeping everything local was a number one focus for these Melbourne Northsiders, and with some incredible wedding vendors on their doorstep, didn’t pose too much of a challenge. Local botanic genius, Melanie of Cecilia Fox, crafted stunning blooms under Emma’s simple brief of “green with amazing texture.” “I let Mel surprise me on the day,” she says. “I was totally thrilled, she nailed it!”

Something of a traditionalist, John requested the not-so-traditional Emma wear white on this day of days. “This posed a bit of a challenge for me,” says Em. “After much researching, the winning style was found! A simple, elegant design by East Brunswick designer Cherry Collins.” Emma’s alternative streak shone through with a dramatic black engagement ring by Melbourne’s Julia deVille, while the bride and groom decided on matching wedding bands – gold faceted pieces from the talented Abby Seymour.

The quaint Brunswick Scout Hall played host to Emma and John’s simple ceremony, which was followed by an afternoon of fun snaps with Samara Clifford around some of their favourite stomping grounds. Emma tells us “Samara was an absolute joy to spend our wedding day with. Not only did she have the day’s schedule set as alarms in her phone and kept everyone perfectly on time, she entertained the bridal party in a way that led to relaxed and fun photos.”

The couple’s favourite café was an easy decision for the reception. “After making contact with East Elevation’s events team, we didn’t even want to look anywhere else!” Guests were treated to a grazing table of local delights and a steady stream of canapés, washed down with Victorian wines and local craft beer. “Our family and friends are still raving about the food!” say the proud pair, who reckon “great food, great booze and a bunch of happy people being together” is the key to a wonderful wedding.
