Amelia & Rory’s Lowkey Margaret River Elopement
Easing into their wedding with brunch at a local café before heading to their Ooi House Airbnb for an elopement on the grounds, this Margaret River wedding was anything but traditional! Staying true to themselves by favouring simplicity and just a few key vendors, Amelia & Rory tell us their day was the perfect mix of modern and romantic. Photographer Jo from Ring and Veil captured all the heartfelt and funny little moments.
DIY Wedding Accessories
To go with her Meraki Official Izar gown by Alvin Fernandez, and later a silky Shona Joy champagne pant suit, Amelia worked on a few DIY details. “I made my veil following YouTube tutorials and basing it off designs I liked,” shares Amelia. “I hand-sewed different sized pearl beads on it which took a few months. Veils can be costly and I was surprised at how simple it was to make.” Another self-project, Amelia also deconstructed a pair of old Kmart earrings, adding dangling pearls on the end, tying in perfectly with her veil.
Ooi House AirBnb Wedding Venue
Initially planning a garden wedding in South Australia (where Amelia is from) WA’s strict border closures meant switching to a small elopement in Margaret River (also where the couple got engaged) just two months out. “We contacted the owners of an Airbnb called Ooi House after searching for a few weeks and got their permission to hold our elopement on the grounds,” remembers Amelia. “The home won an architecture award about 20 years ago and had some vintage features like a sunken lounge and a fishpond in the middle of the house – we ended up having about half of our getting ready photos inside!”
Ceremony at Ooi House Airbnb
The morning of their wedding, the couple started off with a sleep-in and brunch at a local café. “It allowed us to take in the gravity of getting married and be present with each other,” shares Amelia. “I even bought my wedding perfume from a local business that morning.” Their ceremony, which later unfolded under a tree back at Ooi House, was simple and stripped back with just 10 close friends and family. “A fun thing we did too with such a small group and no bridal party was choose our witnesses for the wedding certificate by lucky dip!” Amelia says. Then to wrap up, the two danced back down the aisle to Accidentally in Love (from the Shrek soundtrack), an excellent choice!
Photography by Ring and Veil
Amelia and Rory had nothing but great things to say about photographer Ring and Veil. “Eve and Jo feel like friends, and boy do they do their job well,” shares Amelia. “We loved how they matched our chaotic energy during the shoot and allowed us to have a combination of fun and heartfelt photos.”
Lowkey Reception at Morries
Sticking to their laidback style, Amelia and Rory’s reception involved sunset drinks, a grazing table, a delicious vintage-style wedding cake (The Little Cakery) and speeches from both mothers. Then later, the couple uprooted their few guests to restaurant-bar Morries, which they say went down a treat!
