Emma & Robin’s Melbourne Rooftop Wedding

Quite the cultured couple, Emma and Robin met while living in London, traveled a ton together and after a three-month stint in San Fran, settled in Australia. Robin popped the question while spending New Years in Paris and having picked up a gang of international friends during their globetrotting days, the pair had guests flying in from all over the world to watch them say ‘I do’. What better way to show off their new ‘hood than at Melbourne institution Madame Brussels, offering a bird’s eye view of the concrete jungle from the astro-turfed rooftop bar, with Alex Motta on hand to capture it all.
With such an eclectic garden-party-in-the-city setting for the ceremony, Emma and Robin initially struggled to find a reception venue that wouldn’t pale in comparison. That is, until Emma came across a furniture ad during her googling. What really caught her eye was the space where the furniture was housed – Lauren’s Hall, Blueprint Furniture’s industrial showroom and timber workshop. The hall was exactly the blank canvas they were looking for. “It was love at first sight!” Says Emma, “White walls, Georgian windows, concrete floors, natural light, leafy plants and antiques galore… heaven!”
A designer by trade, Emma meant business when it came to the theme. Collaborating with stylist Kate Sugars, Emma’s vision for the party well and truly came alive. A series of long tables set the scene, laden with candles and lush foliage and flowers by Wunderplant, the perfect compliment to the hall’s timber textures and neutral palette.
Ed Dixon Food Design prepared a delicious spread, paying homage to both the bride and groom’s heritage with exotic dishes – kangaroo canapés for Aussie Emma and boerewors sliders for South African Robin. As the night wore on the guests took to the dance floor, while Emma and Robin took to the decks, and we’ve gotta say, these DJ’ing darlings make a damn fine duo!

Wow … love it. What great locations and a beautiful couple. Melbourne offers lots of beautiful rooftops and it’s great to see them getting used as adding venues. Wish a few of the corporate offices on Southbank would open up their balconies for weddings.
Love the atmosphere of this wedding. Well done!
