Set atop the blank canvas rooftop of Tonic House, Sarah and Mike enlisted the help of Melbourne greenery designers Loose Leaf to create a tropical jungle for their cocktail party wedding. With Beck Rocchi Photography along for the ride, their vibrant wedding was the perfect mix of sentiment and fun.

Their urban-meets-tropical wedding was held on the rooftop of Tonic House, surrounded by the Melbourne cityscape. Mike shares, “Sarah had always dreamed of a rooftop wedding under the stars (not that we could see many in Melbourne CBD). We both loved the idea of an outdoor venue and covering it in nature. The moment we saw Tonic we knew it was the space!” The couple made their vows under cascading palms, white hydrangeas, roses and Singapore orchids from botanical design studio, Loose Leaf.

Sarah and Mike opted for a cocktail event in place of a traditional sit-down reception, with a steady flow of music, canapes and drinks. The day was peppered with personal details; Mike’s brother and best man (and London renowned mixologist) created a bespoke cocktail menu with personalised names, such as The Doof Fairy and Disco Dad). Their best friends surprised them with readings about their relationship, and Mike’s grandmother handmade a wedding band pouch, which was passed around during their ceremony for their loved ones to bless their rings.

As for married life, these two are living the dream! After starting their own branding and creative agency St Dakota, they now travel the world while working as digital nomads.

Sarah's career in advertising has seen her work for some big names in fashion, and many elements of the day were inspired by her experience in the creative industries. Her bridal style was modern yet classic, a stunning, long sleeve beaded dress by Wishbone & Ivy, paired with gold Gucci heels. She wore a Jennifer Behr star hairband for the ceremony, before switching to a One Day Bridal crown for the party.

Melbourne’s Loose Leaf know their greenery, and breathed life into Mike and Sarah’s vision of a lush tropical jungle meets urban space. Contrasting against the concrete jungle of the city skyline, the rooftop was transformed into a vibrant and nature-filled haven. White bentwood chairs and statement furniture from Dann Event Hire added to the fresh, contemporary feel.

Keeping their budget under control was important, so Sarah and Mike focused their attention to three main things; the venue, the food and the photographer. Beck Rocchi's fun and colourful photography style was the perfect match for the relaxed affair. The pair declare, “Beck, we love you.”

Sarah’s love for New York inspired her to ditch the wedding cake for a gourmet hot dog stand from The Snag Society, pairing perfectly with cocktails and fuelling the festivities well into the night.
