When an event stylist designs her own wedding you know it’s going to be something pretty special, and Lily of The Details Co. certainly didn’t disappoint when marrying her beau, Ben! Their modern, classy affair was captured in all of its design-focused glory by Sayher Heffernan.
The couple wanted a contemporary but intimate venue with a central location and The Deck at Circa ticked all the boxes. Having worked with the team before, Lily knew she could trust them to make sure the day ran smoothly. “Being a bit of a control freak by nature, it’s a huge testament to the guys at Circa that I could just relax and not worry about anything,” she says.
The styling was kept clean, minimalist and monochromatic. Elegant white and green arrangements by Bunched Together were paired with black and white stationery and white hexagonal tiles to give the tables a fresh, elegant aesthetic.
As a stylist, Lily has some valuable advice on budgeting for those planning their big day. “Be realistic… when it comes to suppliers, I’m a firm believer that you get what you pay for. If you want good quality photos or videos, pay a good photographer or videographer. The same goes with everything else from the wedding stylist, hair and makeup to your cakes. You’re paying for their skills, experience and a guarantee that they will produce great work for you on your wedding day.”
Lily wore the ‘Enya’ dress by Karen Willis Holmes with an altered back and custom overlay added to make it her own. Shoes by Tony Bianco and earrings from Mimco completed her elegant look.
With a little help from friend Timothy Chew and Saint Gertrude Letterpress, Lily and Ben designed the stationery themselves. We're especially loving the modern monogram they used to put their signature on the day.
Lily and Ben designed the unique arbor used as a backdrop for their ceremony, surrounded by potted plants and foliage. Of the ceremony Lily says, “It was a very personal ceremony, exactly how we wanted it. The celebrant, the band, the sound guy they were all our (crazy talented) friends and that just made it so much more intimate and meaningful to us.”
When it came to cake, Lily knew immediately where to go. “I’ve worked so much with Cass from Fig & Salt and it’s foolproof. She always brings the goods and I adore her desserts.”
At the end of the night guests were asked to help themselves to a breakfast bar featuring an array of delicious breakfast items for them to take away and enjoy the following morning including chia puddings, packets of granola and jars of honey – a good way to make the “morning after” a little more bearable!
