Louisa & Stephan’s Moroccan Festival Wedding

High-school sweethearts Louisa and Stephan transformed their own front yard into a Moroccan-inspired bohemia for a wedding complete with Bedouin tent, Marrakech lanterns and floating feathers aplenty. “It was where heaven met the earth,” says the henna-happy bride, “a textural, visual delight for the senses.” And Nouba favourite Luke Going Photography got in on all the festivities.

Lou describes their theme as bohemian-vintage glam with Moroccan flavours and an earthy, almost tribal feel. Eclectic much? And what a spectacular result – playing out on her family’s 40-acres in Hunchy on the Sunshine Coast. The sentimental sanctuary put them both at ease, came with no curfew and saved this pair a pretty penny (amazingly only just tipping over an $8,000 budget).

And they weren’t afraid to get down and dirty with some serious DIY. The bride got busy glittering her collection of feathers (fluffed up with emu plumes from The Goddess Emporium) and fashioning op-shop dollies into table runners. Mum took care of the coloured ribbons (formerly old fabric and hung with a little help from Steve), and the layout – complete with calico-covered hay bales, pillows and Persian rugs – was sorted by step-dad.

“We designed it to create little nooks and spaces that held their own interesting ambiance for people to hang out and mingle in,” says Lou of the comfy spread, where 80 guests lounged and lapped up morsels inspired by the groom’s Greek heritage.

Fun and free in a knee-skimming number from Lover and Bo & Luca bejewelled headpiece, she and Steve flitted around their festival, closely followed by dear friend (and conveniently, smashing photographer) Luke. “His creative, intuitive flare makes him one of the best,” they say, “he goes with his inner flow and gives more than just a picture or a simple memory, but captures the essence of that moment.”
