Lydia & Ilias’ Museum & Art Gallery of NT Wedding
Striking a balance between traditional and modern, this Northern Territory wedding honoured Lydia and Ilias’ Greek heritage while celebrating in style. Kicking off with a ceremony at a Greek Orthodox Church, before diverting to a candlelit dinner at Museum & Art Gallery of NT with ambient vibes and dancing, you could say Lydia and Ilias’ day had plenty ‘kefi’. Photographer Psealms shares all the lovely details.
Greek Orthodox Church Ceremony
With both their parents married at the same venue and home to many family memories, Lydia and Ilias knew they wanted a ceremony in a Greek Orthodox church. “The church is a place we have all grown up in and the natural woods, deep reds were enough for us,” says the duo. The ceremony included a traditional ritual where crowns are placed on both the bride and groom’s head, before being entwined with ribbon to symbolise their union. With more than 150 of their family and friends watching on, the couple tells us this is considered small as far as Greek weddings go!
Wedding Photography by Psealms
Listing their photographer as a stand out vendor, Lydia and Ilias are so grateful they managed to book Psealms just one week out from the wedding. “Our original photographers couldn’t come up from interstate due to Covid,” Lydia tells us. “Psealms brought structure and so much energy to the day – we literally saw the crew dance their way out of the reception party.”
Museum & Art Gallery of NT Reception
While originally planning to host their wedding in Sydney to be close to Ilias family, this was quickly deemed off the cards due to COVID-19 restrictions. Less than a month out from the wedding, the couple decided to have their wedding in Darwin instead, where they are based. Luckily, one of the few places available was Museum & Art Gallery of NT, which the couple grew up going to. “There was a bit of nostalgia and it was a place many of us had never been to for a wedding,” the couple tells us. “Views were epic and we were encased by greenery that hugged a cliff facing the beach while overlooking Darwin’s show stopping sunset.”
Lots of Love and Kefi
‘Kefi’ – this was a word used to plan their reception, translating to the feel and energy of a party. “We wanted lots of kefi – for the night to be filled with love,” Lydia and Ilias tell us. “Like our family dinners, we wanted everyone to sit together and to have food we all love.” Another important factor for Lydia was the ambience and flowers. “My thoughts were why not do something vibrant and fun with reds and mismatched flowers (Beija Flor) and candles throughout,” explains Lydia.
