Add two creative types with a flare for DIY, the candid photography of Nouba-fave Jonathan Ong, the Royal Botanic Gardens in full bloom and the The Substation’s industrial setting… and you have yourself the perfect Melbourne wedding.

The ceremony chalkboard read “we’ve travelled a long way”. So too had the couple’s international wedding posse, sixty of whom had come from all corners of the globe for the special day.

It took talented wedding photographer Sayher (as in Heffernan, another Nouba legend) some time to convince writer Amelia to give their Singapore/Melbourne long distance relationship a chance. A few years, a lot of frequent flyer points and an incredible rooftop proposal later, this couple were planning their dream wedding.

The Gardens House at the Royal Botanic Gardens provided the perfect floral backdrop for the ceremony. The bride wore a stunning dress from Bo & Luca, hand beaded with stones and pearls. “It was elegant, slightly bohemian and just felt and looked different from any of the dresses I had seen,” says Amelia.

The botanic theme continued into The Substation, where a spectacular hanging white tulip installation by Bunched Together became the focal point of the lofty industrial space. The Asian fusion menu from The Fair Foodstore was followed by a glorious two-tier naked cake from Eleos Cakes.

Thrilled with the way their special day unfolded, this couple’s advice to others is to make sure that your wedding feels personal and individual. “The most important thing is the both of you having a wedding that best represents you and your personalities,” says Amelia.

A man of many talents, Sayher took care of the stationery side of things. He designed a poster-style invitation that guests could keep to pin on their walls. We want one!

Amelia tells us she scouted boutiques and online for ages before discovering The Parisienne dress by Bo & Luca. "It's a beautifully hand-beaded piece, crafted from layers of silk-chiffon and a myriad of stones and pearls. Long-sleeved and with a low-back, it's ideal for a Spring wedding."

Sayher and Amelia bought place name tags from Paperpoint and had an illustrator friend hand write guest's names.

Made by the couple’s good friends at Eleos Cakes, guests indulged in two tiers of heaven; a dark chocolate mud cake with salted caramel ganache and crushed raspberries and a vanilla mud cake with Nutella buttercream. Yum!!
