Cindy & Eddie’s Art-Inspired Wedding at The Olsen

The idea of ‘what a wedding should be’ went straight out the window for Cindy and Eddie, who shirked tradition and killed it in the unconventional nuptials game. The Olsen may not be your typical wedding venue but for these art lovers, the quirky South Yarra gem was everything they were looking for, as was the work of Jai Long (Free the Bird Photography) and we can’t imagine anyone better to capture their art-inspired affair.

According to Cindy, it took a trip to Japan for this pair to shrug off the ‘just friends’ label and they’ve been inseparable ever since, “Sometimes being away from your normal life and settings can make you think about things differently,” she explains, “and all of the things keeping us from being together just didn’t matter anymore. The rest as they say, is history!”

As if the Art Series ceremony venue wasn’t enough, this creative couple decided to make things a little more interesting by dreaming up some interactive art installations for the reception at South Wharf’s gallery-like space, Food and Desire. A video loop showing the city of Melbourne, a balloon space inspired by NGV’s recent Andy Warhol x Ai Wei Wei exhibition, plus some pretty epic floristry by Grown Florists made this marriage celebration one to remember!

When it came to her wedding day locks, Cindy stayed faithful to her hairdresser of 10 years, Danielle Ryan and that rich, deep red - straight fire! Catriona Spears worked her makeup magic, killing it with a bronzed smokey eye/ red lip combo, and best of all? It stayed intact despite many happy tears throughout the day!

Flowers were a top priority for this bride and Jenni of Grown Florists brought her visions to life. The epic installations were inspired by the work of Rebecca Louise Law, the directives were ‘big, bright, bold and seasonal’ and the results speak for themselves - GORGEOUS!

White just wasn’t an option for this ivory-skinned bride, but she found an blush Wendy Makin embellished gown that perfectly suited her skin tone. “My dress was everything I was looking for! It was important for me to wear something unique and classic and I felt like I was wearing a couture piece straight from the runway, it was amazing.”

“Jai's photos just speak to the viewer in the same way a work of art would.” Says Cindy of their Free The Bird photographer. “We had full confidence in his ability and we just let him do his thing, It was a very chilled out day and the photos just came out better than I could have hoped for.”

The balloon space was a hit with the kids and adults alike and Cindy says Harry The Hirer is to thank for the setup, “It was inspired by the Andy Warhol x Ai Wei Wei exhibition we visited at the NGV. In it, there is a section of silver foil balloons being blown around in conflicting directions by floor/ceiling fans and you basically go in there and have the time of your life hitting the balloons up into the air. I knew I wanted this to be a part of our wedding, not only was it fun, but visually as an installation it was really effective.”

The table set-up is awesome. I think the table flower centerpiece is just beautiful.

Stay in the loop!
