On A Whim teamed up with photographer Jarrad Seng, stylist Emma Bergmeier-Varian of Dropstitch and fashion blogger and model Angeline Lloyd to bring us this sun-kissed summer collection – perfect for those easy-breezy beach and boho brides. We chatted with Kate and Erin, the ladies behind the Perth-based label who’ve just this month launched their online shop.
When was On a Whim formed?
On A Whim first took shape in early 2010, when Erin began creating garments from vintage fabric and selling at designer markets in Perth. Not long after Kate jumped on board and from there we began developing our label. We initially produced one off garments out of vintage fabric and began taking on made-to-measure clients.
What was the inspiration for starting the label?
We met in our graduating year, while studying at Polytechnic West in 2009. Our collections were seemingly very different; Kate’s featured a dark colour palette and leather, while Erin’s comprised of naturally hand dyed pieces. But on closer inspection the same traits carried through both; hand finishes, quality construction and good fits. We are both dedicated to producing a product which is made in Australia – this has been the basis of our label.
Where can brides find you?
We recently opened our own studio inside the amazing Studio Bomba. The space is designed to allow our customers the rare experience of watching us design, create and construct their pieces. We offer a complete made to measure service for bridal and special occasion wear, as well as having our ready to wear items on the retail floor.
