Fiona and Peter wanted a relaxed and spontaneous feel to their wedding day and embraced the opportunity to show off a little creative flair with an abundance of DIY details. Their breezy Matilda Bay ceremony was followed by a vibrant celebration in the graffiti-splashed warehouse of Perth City Farm.
Together with an entourage of helpers, the couple rolled up their sleeves for an assortment of wedding DIY projects; brightly spray painting old furniture, chalking up the blackboard with drink tasting notes, constructing the photobooth, arranging flowers for the reception tables, making paint sample escort cards… the list goes on! But perhaps the most impressive feature of the day was the cloud of hundreds of paper cranes hanging from a foliage-clad ladder, suspended over the centre dining table.
Now, City Farm is an amazing spot, but it’s not exactly geared toward weddings. Fiona admits she might have underestimated the work involved with bringing everything in for the event, but fortunately she had her trusty stylist onboard to help things run smoothly. “Camille Smetana of Studio Event Design brought all my ideas to life while adding her own flair” says Fiona, who was rapt with the results.
Inspired by the chic creations of Israeli designer Inbal Dror, Fiona worked with local label, Clear Couture to create a romantic lace gown and bohemian Juliette cap veil. After the ceremony, Fiona swapped the veil for a vibrant floral crown, a creation by local florist, Phillipa Olster.
The couple’s relaxed approach required a photographer with a natural, authentic style, and Aimee Claire was an easy choice. “We wanted someone organised but relaxed,” says Fiona “who would capture the day from the background rather than forcing us into awkward poses or detracting from the moment.” Thrilled with their gorgeous images, Fiona tells me they’re spoilt for choice for frameable shots.

What a absolutely stunning wedding Fiona and Peter. We are planning a wedding at Perth City Farm and I don’t know how you achieved such a stunning finish! Would you mind if I ask where you got the wooden tables from? Cheers
