Holly & Jarrod’s Chilled Mexicana Beach Wedding

Thanks to some coincidental run-ins and a little (ok, a LOT) of stalking on the bride’s part, Holly and Jarrod first crossed paths in their hometown of Geraldton, fell for each other and the rest is history. After pulling off the mother of all proposals involving a staged photo shoot to capture the moment, the pair tied the knot in Bremer Bay, with good pal and photographer Jenna Mason along for the ride.

With beautiful bushland surroundings and a river nearby, Bremer Bay is every bit the quaint coastal town and according to Holly, it was decided as the location of her wedding long before Jarrod was ever in the picture. “The venue was chosen when I was about 12,” she laughs. “Bremer Bay is a tiny little town on the south coast of WA and has been a family holiday spot for my family for generations. I grew up with my family in this location and it means the absolute world to us.”

In keeping with their laid-back natures, Holly and Jarrod knew the kind of wedding they wanted. Their friends and fam made up a large portion of the vendors and they incorporated a fun Mexican vibe throughout the day. “We love simplicity, so having a big extravagant wedding was never going to be our thing,” says Holly. “But having a big casual outdoor party with a side of wedding was.”

Despite an unrelenting downpour on the day, these sweethearts were unfazed. Dancing in the rain to a killer playlist of rock classics – think Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones – the after party went well into the night.

Friend and hairdresser Christine Harvey created a gorgeous fishtail plait for the bride, even threading her own leather garter throughout it as Holly’s ‘something old’. A natural beauty, Holly tends to go bare-faced and Tahnee Smith of The End Result was tasked with the challenge of creating a look that wasn’t too traditional or bridal. Glowing skin and glittery gold eyelids was the way to go and it suited the free-spirited Holly to a tee.

There was some sentimentality behind Holly’s ceremony look - she wore a white lace top belonging to her late nanna, with white leather boots (by Wandering Coyote) and a wrap-around skirt made by a local seamstress from velvet sourced in Bali.

The boys kept things casual with Jarrod in a pair of navy Afends pants, a Pontoon shirt, Converse and a cool hat, while the groomsmen wore mismatched shirts in a similar colour.

With a loose colour palette as guide, Holly let her bridesmaids choose their own attire and we are loving the autumnal tones. Outfits were sourced from Lenni the Label, Zulu & Zephyr, Corner Surf Shop and Fremantle op shops.

Not ones to abide by the rules, Holly and Jarrod wanted a photographer who would let them run free. Enter their good pal Jenna Mason. Having captured the proposal, she had always been their first choice and they couldn’t have been happier. “Her style of work is exactly what we were after. She captures moments, emotions and people’s personalities to perfection, plus she’s a pretty rad human being. We love her.”

A post-ceremony outfit change saw Holly donning a super cool backless lace jumpsuit with by Stone Cold Fox and we're totally digging her not-so-bridal vibe.

Holly’s ring stack was crafted by her talented jeweller friend Lauren Herbert of Lahcinta Jewellery. “The shape of my engagement ring and wedding band together symbolises the form of the yin yang and looks like one big ring.” She tells us. “It incorporates 3 green diamonds, white gold and rose gold. It is the most incredibly unique ring and to have it made by someone who means the world to me is pretty special.”
