Josh & Kate’s Substation Wedding

January 31, 2014
We love a gallery wedding and The Substation in Newport is certainly a favourite. Those enormous cathedral windows with their heavy crimson curtains create the most incredible backdrop – the perfect venue for ceremony, portraits and party.
Josh and Kate’s Substation wedding took full advantage of the dramatic setting with amazing portraits by Photographer Samm Blake. The couple wanted a personal wedding that would be tonnes of fun without breaking the bank, so opted to get their hands dirty with plenty of DIY. There was no set theme but they chose a colour palette of gold and watermelon to compliment the warm tones of the venue. Those gorgeous tassel streamers you see were painstakingly made by hand… all 11 metres of them!
A unique wedding gown was top of the list for Kate, who worked with her dressmaker to design and create her stunning 70’s inspired gem. As a reward for keeping costs down on the dress front, she splashed out on some D&G earrings and glittery gold to-die-for Miu Miu heels. Josh stuck with the retro vibe in a navy blue suit and black bow tie.
