Anita and Joel met in a Metallica moshpit, of all places, and their shared love of metal is matched only by their love of the great outdoors. Obi Obi Hall in Queensland’s beautiful Obi Valley was top of their venue wish list, and when they discovered it was fully booked, the pair put their plans on hold for a year to secure a spot. From these gorgeous snaps by Bonnie Jenkins, we can see why they fell so hard for the luminous setting.

The couple had planned to forgo tradition, like cake cutting, sit down meals and speeches, but some aspects of their laid-back wedding were actually just happy accidents. Anita shares, “Classic me forgot to mention to our coordinator that we wanted to use the hall’s chairs for the ceremony seating… which resulted in our loved ones gathering around us instead of the traditional aisle seating arrangement. We loved this! It made the ceremony feel more intimate.”

After the I do’s, guests tucked into an incredible grazing table put together by two of the bride’s friends. Drinks were served from retro caravan, Vintage Bondwood Bar, as guests lounged on sofas and mingled in the golden sunlight of the afternoon. Wood fired pizzas by Jungle Oven were enjoyed around a massive bonfire, and as the temperature dropped to a rare Sunshine Coast minus two degrees, the only way to stay warm was to bring some serious heat to the d-floor!

An essential element to transitioning from wedding to ‘party you will never forget’ is the music, so Anita and Joel were serious about the right DJ. Aaron of Cut A Rug kept guests dancing to bangers from sundown well into the night. “Seriously the most fun EVER. Joel busted his lip doing the worm – the most epic fail but a good indication of just how crazy that dance floor got!”

Anita wore a custom lace gown by Marilyn Crystelle Bridal, with essential stretch for a night full of shimmying. She paired it with a full length veil for a little drama.

Anita had met Ashlea of Vintage Bondwood Bar while working on a styled shoot a few years back, and hired her picture-perfect caravan bar to serve drinks throughout the day. “Ashlea makes the whole thing so simple and snazzy. Her caravan fit-out is gorgeous and second to none. We supply the booze, she supplies bar staff, glassware and ice and our guests absolutely loved it.”

As a self-taught florist, making her own bouquets was high on Anita’s wedding wishlist. The bride shares, “I couldn’t decide for the life of me what I wanted, as I love so many different flowers, styles and colour palettes; so I compromised by keeping the palette for the rest of the wedding fairly neutral. I drove to the flower markets at 3am the Wednesday before our wedding and just went bananas buying whatever took my fancy! It was one of the most rewarding things I could have done, I loved my bouquet so much.”

Anita has known photographer Bonnie Jenkins for many years, so the decision to have her to capture their day was easy as pie. The bride shares, “We felt so comfortable with Bonnie, we bounced off each-others’ quirky sense of humour and we had so much fun shooting with her on our day.”

The bride’s good friend Sascha of Daisy Cakes happens to make some seriously good sweet treats, so the couple opted for an epic dessert table piled high with black forest wedding cake, lemon curd cheesecake, walnut brownies, tarts and pies. Anita shares, “The dessert was announced by the DJ blasting Def Leppard’s Pour Some Sugar On Me.”
