Dan & Becs’ Best of Sydney Wedding

UK natives Dan and Becs have called Sydney home for the past 8 years, so it was only natural they’d want to share their beloved city with visiting family when it came to tying the knot. They chose McKell Park at Darlington Point for the ceremony, before whisking everyone across the Harbour on a vintage ferry, to the picturesque deck at Andrew (Boy) Charlton Swimming Pool. With Damien Milan behind the lens, this wedding couldn’t have been more perfect.

The pair jumped straight into the wedding plans after their engagement, knowing they’d need to give their overseas fam the heads up if they wanted to tie the knot on Australian soil. The Christmas holidays seemed like an ideal time to do it, not to mention the fact that Sydney always turns it on in summer. Their chosen venues both had to-die-for views of the Harbour, with the laidback, intimate vibe they were looking for.

“We decided if we were going to spend money on a wedding, it had to be fun.” Tells Becs. “We wanted it to feel effortless and relaxed so we ditched a lot of the traditional elements. We just did what we felt complimented the environment and made sure there was plenty of space for people relax, raise a glass or two and drink in the beautiful harbour views.” We’ll cheers to that!

Sophie Rothwell is the talent behind these beautiful blooms and according to Becs, she was a gem to work with. “I really connected with Sophie, you couldn’t not - she’s such a beautiful person! She totally got what I wanted to achieve and I had absolute confidence in her.”

A 36 degree Sydney day is never easy to dress for, but thanks to a custom design by Helen English, Becs looked flawless all day. “I wanted something very simple and elegant so I decided to have something made to measure. Helen was very patient and worked with me on my ideas. I felt really elegant on the day and it was the perfect dress for our Sydney summer wedding.”

McKell Park is a fave picnic spot for the couple and just down the road from their Paddington home, while ABC Swimming Pool had the quintessential Sydney feel they were after. “We wanted to get married in Sydney and wanted our family and friends to experience our home. We felt more connection with a venue that had some meaning to us and told a story of our lives together in Sydney.”

Damien Milan never disappoints and we're head over heels for his fresh, vibrant frames. “Damien not only gave us beautiful photos to remember our day with, but more than that, he told the story of the day perfectly and in the process captured all of the fun with great care and skill.”
