Your most loved weddings of 2020

Ok, so 2020 wasn’t ideal, but do you know what we loved about the crazy year that was? We loved the spirit and optimism of the couples whose big plans had been dashed, but who brushed themselves off and got on with getting wed, by whatever means necessary. Additionally, we were so uplifted by the sense of support and creative energy within the wedding community – creatives supporting other creatives, even when things got really tough. And while we’ve been dished up plenty of heartbreak over the last 12 months, we’ve also been lucky enough to share some truly special celebrations.

This week we’ve looked back at the year’s best bridal, florals and wedding cakes, and now we’re wrapping up our Best of 2020 series with your most loved real weddings. Thank you to ALL the amazing couples who have shared their big days with us over the last 12 months, and to the wonderful wedding creatives who have submitted their work for publication. Here’s to a vastly improved 2021!

Marah and Simon’s ‘Come Together’ theme was all about celebrating their gang of guests, who were treated to confetti cannons, live music, plentiful food truck fare and a Mariachi-led processional through the streets of Footscray. Photographer Jackson Grant came along for the ride, which kicked off at the Footscray Amphitheater and continued in a haze of coloured smoke, disco balls and neon at The Line. The blank canvas warehouse venue was the perfect spot to bring their vibrant vision to life, with Bangin Hangins streamer installations and quirky-meets-cosy styling by Good Day Club.

Classic and classy was the order of the day for JP and Kayne, who tied the knot during a Bondi downpour in front of a beautiful, succulent-loaded arbour by Petal Decor. The pair managed to look cool and collected in their drenched Brent Wilson linen suits and photographer This Day Forward took full advantage of the beautiful moody light. Self confessed ‘fun gluttons’, JP and Kayne put on a party to remember at The Blue Room Bondi with coordinator Samantha Burke onboard to ensure all ran smoothly. Catch their day in full here.

After COVID upended Cass and Luke’s wedding plans, the pair decided to enlist The Elopement Collective to get the deed done. Handing over creative control to The Perfect Party Co and Rosenthal Creative, the pair told the team, ‘surprise us!’ They styled up a dream at the industrial M Arts Precinct, and Cass and Luke were free to focus on their own wedding getup – you might have seen the bride rocking her modern look at our best of bridal post! Megan and Matt kept things pretty low-key with a few stand-out details for their small backyard wedding in Brisbane. With a ‘pink and red’ brief, the couple handed over the reins to Mrs Gibbons Flowers and The Perfect Party Co to work their magic. Except for the cake (you might have seen it over at our best of cakes post?), which was made by the bride – chief caker at Hansel & Gretel Cakes.
