Nestled between hills of deep green foliage and the serene waters of Cockle Cove, Lucinda and John gathered their loved ones to celebrate under towering palms. Captured by SB Creative, their laid-back beach wedding on stunning Magnetic Island had all bases covered for a lush beach party.

Playing out on a secluded family property, the couple said their vows under a driftwood arbour with a picture-perfect beach backdrop. Lucinda shares, “Our ceremony and reception were at the same venue and all meshed into one big party. We made sure the bar was open before the ceremony for all 78 guests, which included a rowboat named “Herbie” filled with beer and cider. We wanted to give the feel of one big party, rather than a ceremony versus reception.” As they were legally married a month before the day, their mates conducted a short and sweet pseudo-ceremony.

Lucinda’s best friend Dette Ede used to work as a wedding planner for her family’s business Ede Events, before a career change took her elsewhere. Lucky for this pair, Dette agreed to come out of retirement and wear the hats of stylist, florist, wedding planner, MC and celebrant! The styling was kept harmonious with the setting, with plenty of foliage and native flora, luxurious crystal glassware, linens and festoon lighting crisscrossing the sky.

As for advice for others planning their day, Lucinda has some sage words, “Be true to yourself. It is so easy to get sucked into the world of weddings and in turn get carried away with trends and must-haves. But in my opinion, it is your day, therefore you make your own rules.”

Lucinda wore a celestial sequinned gown by Brooke Tyson Ritual, which she paired with a delicate Jeanette Maree headpiece. Completing her laid-back-yet-luxe bridal look was a lush burgundy bouquet, featuring proteas, dahlias, orchids and laceleaf.

A long L-shaped communal table had everyone sitting together and was adorned with beautiful linens, gold cutlery, crystal glassware and foliage aplenty, with place cards hand-lettered by Lucinda and Dette.

Lucinda and John decided to take some pressure off the day by legally tying the knot in secret a month prior. Their good friends conducted a short but sweet ceremony and Lucinda tells us “it took about five minutes, and to be honest, that was long enough for me. Phew!”.

The day was catered by Ashlee Ede, head chef at Otto’s Hen Haus in Townsville and creator of pop-up dining experience, The Secret Feast. Lucinda shares more about their delicious spread, “We wanted a grazing table for after the ceremony and a communal feast for dinner so everyone could share and have as much as they wanted.

The couple initially planned on not having photographer, but Lucinda’s bestie and wedding planner said Skye of SB Creative Co was a must-have. Lucinda shares, “We were very upfront with Skye in telling her that we didn’t want much of our day taken up with photo time. She was an absolute pro and swiftly organized the family shots and portraits. It was all done at the same venue making it enjoyable and hassle-free. We are both shy in front of the camera, Skye was very skilled in making us feel comfortable. The end result speaks for itself, Skye is amazing!”

The couple chose to not have a big wedding cake, instead opting for a mountain of their favourite brownies from I Heart Brownies in Brisbane. The bride shares, “We had them on the night we were engaged so it seemed fitting to have them on our wedding night.
