The images captured of meaningful moments are the ultimate keepsake, taking us right back to the minutes that flew past too quickly. South Australian based photographer Wes Beelders’ ethos is firmly grounded in the timeless value of his work.

Wes has been snapping shots of loved-up couples for the last six years around Adelaide and its surrounds. With an easygoing approach to his weddings, he aims to create a fun and relaxed experience while documenting the story of the day from beginning to end. A classic style and ‘simple is best’ philosophy, Wes keeps the focus on capturing the character and personality of his couples.

We caught up with the man behind the lens to talk about inspiration and the journey his work has taken him on so far.

Tell us a little about your background and the path that brought you to wedding photography.

I use to work as a videographer about 10 years ago in South Africa. When I came to Australia I was introduced to photography. I worked alongside some amazing photographers until I found my own vision and started my own business.

How would you describe your photography style?

Super relaxed. I want my couples’ experience with me to be on par with the images I take. I want them to have real memories of their day to share in 30 years. You love the person you are marrying and my job is to capture their character as they are. I love to take images that hold value and do not age.

Was wedding photography always the passion? What other personal projects keep you busy?

My clients become my friends. I get to spend every Saturday around my friends helping them make their day special! What more could a person wish for?! In my spare time I work on my friendship with my wife, spending time together.

Other hobbies are Kayaking, gardening, crossfit training and fishing.

Who are some other photographers you admire?

Seriously too many to answer. I have an amazing group of photographer friends who I refer my booked dates to. Good human beings who do amazing work.

Do you have some favourite wedding creatives you love working alongside?

Florist – Fabulous Functions.

Celebrant – Camille Webber.

Venues – Seppeltsfield and Golding Winery.

What are some of your go-to sources of inspiration and/or professional development?

I love having a coffee with people who grew up in the 40’s. Realise what is truly important in life and how the world has changed. I grab their wedding albums and find value and inspiration!

What’s the most memorable wedding you’ve captured?

My favourite image is of a grandfather dancing with his 6month old granddaughter. One day I would like to print this image and give it to the little girl.

Finally, do you have any tips for couples planning their wedding?

Have fun! Make a list of things to do and tick them off as you go. Don’t get caught up in what other people are you doing. Just be yourself and your day will be amazing.
