Annabelle & William’s Rustic Farm Wedding
Where to seat a party of 220? Why a tennis court-turned-smashing reception venue, of course, and luckily this bride’s family property had just that. “I wanted the wedding to be garden-based and relaxed,” Annabelle tells me, “but with an elegant twist to fit in with the surroundings.” With her own interiors biz and a host of talented friends, it’s no wonder this rustic farm wedding looks so darn good.
A couple of years back she and farmer William shacked-up at his family property in Cressy, and smuggled fellow Tassie dweller, photographer Jonathan Wherrett, back to her hometown for their day. “We flew him in because I just had to have him,” says the bride, who was all about timeless elegance when it came to her frock. “Something I’d look back in many years to come and still love – not think, ‘what was I thinking’.” A stunning-yet-simple silky number from Johanna Johnson fit the bill, found at Intique & Co Bridal Boutique.
And how about those bridesmaids? Calvin Klein, if you please, “simple at the front but with stunning pleated detail at the back,” and Annabelle had her man sorted too. “Willy looks amazing in navy so that’s just what he had to have,” brides orders!
Following a ceremony on her folks’ front lawn, the sizable party hit the court. “We wanted an alfresco wedding, however due to bad weather, we had to call in a clear marquee the day before,” but the skies held it in for a decent dance sesh – on a floor fashioned from recycled boards by her dad and Willy.
That gorgeous, floral-flanked ladder was the work of Alice from Floral Harvest, who buddied with the bride in styling the day. “Her ladder was the centrepiece to the whole wedding and it was just a knockout,” says Annabelle, who put her own hand to those stamped linen napkins (a labour of love, and many an evening). We have to admit, we’re a little bit smitten with this story of farmer finds a wife.
