Jess and Adam met by the sea, they’ve lived by the sea and they got engaged IN the sea. Having spent so much time at sea, a beach wedding would have been the natural choice but this perfect pair prefer to be unpredictable – so a garden party it was. Lilli Waters of I Got You Babe captured it all and this is one party we wish we’d scored an invite to!
Quite the adventurers, Jess and Adam’s romance was an international affair from the start. They met while working on Hamilton Island, travelled through Europe, then moved to Spain together, where they worked on Super Yachts that carried them all over the Mediterranean and the Caribbean. The two finally settled in Elizabeth Bay, but the ocean is never far away.
The back paddock of Steve’s family farm provided the perfect patch for the ceremony, and although they didn’t settle on a theme, the day organically assumed a rustic vibe. With guests perched on bales of hay, Jess and Adam said I do under an arbour of branches and eucalyptus leaves. After dreams of an open-air affair under the stars, Jess and Adam threw caution to the wind – quite literally, “We were risk takers and didn’t put up a marquee.” Admits Jess. Cue cyclonic winds and rain, but even gloomy skies couldn’t darken their day.
Against the moody grey clouds, Jess positively glowed in her sequined ivory Rachel Gilbert gown. Wanting to look like herself, this beauty of a bride did her own natural-look makeup. For the ‘something old’, Jess’ grandmothers brought the goods – “I had a small piece of my grandmother’s wedding dress on my bouquet, the vintage lace detail which was attached with a brooch belonging to my other Nana.” She explains.
The groom kept things classy in a navy TM Lewin suit, and a tie in a hue so blue that it just about compensated for the grey skies. This resourceful couple were all about the DIY, and did most of the hard yards themselves, with the help of their family and friends. The arbour was a team effort and even the luscious looking cake was home-made – three layers of which the bride made the morning of the wedding, for fears it wasn’t big enough.
Rain or shine, Lilli always weaves magic behind the lens, and these stunning snaps of Jess and Adam prove it. “She captured our wedding day like a story book.” Jess says, “and was so easy going and fun!” Tori Allen Events took care of the flowers, a gorgeous mix of natives in homage to the surroundings, and ACC Catering cooked up a gourmet BBQ that looked so delicious we’d snag a shish kebab any day.
As the skies grew even darker, these sweethearts partied on under the festoon lights until the weather forced everyone into the shed, but with Blue Avenue Entertainment on the decks everyone had a reason to dance. Though their dreams of dancing under the stars didn’t quite go according to plan, Jess and Adam were optimistic, “On the day, we just went with everything that happened, including the weather. Sometimes the best parts are the unplanned bits.”
