“A little bit vintage, a little bit rustic, a little bit hipster.” That’s how Kirsty and Aaron describe their wedding day and judging by their photos by Jai Long of Free the Bird, it’s a winning combination. The Melbourne pair tied the knot in the astro-turfed courtyard of Eastern Hill Dining Hall, before treating their guests to a feast that had us salivating – and we only read the menu!
The vintage theme of their wedding wasn’t the only ode to old world charm – these lovebirds like to do things old-school, and Aaron proposed after a leisurely bike ride and picnic along Merri Creek. This groom sure knows how to do romance.
Mainly sourcing her ensemble from eBay, Kirsty couldn’t have look sweeter. She paired a demure 50’s inspired, tea-length dress with a sheer lace top from Etsy store Tiffary and sparkly pumps. A red lip, elegant waves and back-seam stocking’s had this lady lookin’ lovely. Aaron also exuded old-school style in a fitted dark blue Politix suit, with a ‘do so slick James Dean would be jealous.
With its natural ambiance, Eastern Hill had everything this classic-cool couple was after, and they looked right at home under its pitched ceilings, stained glass and Gothic inspired architecture. Jarrah Young of Hot Dish not only styled the space but catered the entire event – canapés, charcuteries and all! While the farmhouse-style main had mouths watering, it was the sweets that tickled our fancy – a trio of petite desserts consisting of spiced salve, potted apple raspberry compote and a slice of Kirsty and Aaron’s decadent Belgium chocolate almond meal wedding cake.
Whitemoss Florist provided pretty posies for the day, and with a bouquet in hand the bride and her groom ducked away to the nearby gardens for a few snaps. Off the beaten path and with a cathedral of ancient trees and foliage overhead, Jai of Free the Bird captured some real fairytale shots – perfectly fitting for Kirsty and Aaron’s happily ever after.
