Jodi & Mitch’s Old Treasury Building Wedding
These cool kids met at the ripe old age of 11, sharing their first kiss behind the school hall with an audience of young onlookers. Jodi tells me “we always remained friends and played cat and mouse for many years”. Fast-forward a decade or so to a rainy winter’s day, and she and Mitch are at it again, kissing in front of a slightly different crowd in the Old Treasury Building.
Jodi’s epic 80s number was an Etsy find from Blue Vinyl Vintage, but the style-savvy bride put a hefty personal twist on it. “I redesigned the dress, asking the dressmaker to cut the back out and add a bucket-load of tulle,” says Jodi, who had a tough time convincing the poor dressmaker that she really did want it to be that puffy. Black ankle boots, a DIY baby’s breath bouquet and a custom made feather head piece from Every Whim Designs completed the offbeat bride’s alternative look. Which, I might add, we LOVE.
A little rain didn’t stop these two running amok in their favourite Melbourne haunts, getting around on the 112 tram with Lauren of LJM Photography along for the ride. “I don’t know what to say about Lauren,” says Jodi, “to say ‘she’s the best photographer in Melbourne’ just isn’t good enough! Not only did she give us photos more amazing than we ever expected, our guests loved her and she wasn’t bothered by standing out in the rain or catching public transport.”
Hopping off the 112 at their Fitzroy local, the couple joined their guests in the cosy Salon of The Provincial Hotel. “We wanted somewhere in our favourite nook of Melbourne” says Jodi. “The Provincial is unique and has its own classic charm.” The newlywed’s first dance was a barefoot dance contest, Pulp Fiction style, to Chuck Berry’s You Never Can Tell. So very apt for these young lovers.
