New Zealand photographer, Danelle Bohane possesses a sensitivity with imagery that is somehow both organic and flawless. When she delivered Danielle and Luke’s stunning Kumeu Valley wedding, we were instantly in love.
“Danelle was my first choice,” says the gorgeous Danielle, the two having met in photography class at school. While the bride may not have gone on to pursue photography professionally, there is no shortage of creative feathers in her cap. A writer (of novels no less!), a wholefoods cook and co-creator of beautiful food blog Pantry Narrative, this clever lass is more than a pretty face.
And those talents were put to good use for this dreamy autumn wedding, the bride adding ‘stylist’ and ‘florist’ feathers to that overcrowded cap. Having purchased blooms from the Auckland Flower Markets, Danielle and her small team of helpers created the bouquets, boutonniere and arrangements for the day. They also styled Kumeu’s refurbished barn, hanging fairy lights from the rafters and laying long banquet tables with linen, candles and home-dried hydrangeas.
Danielle also worked closely with bridal designer John Zimmermann to create that gorgeous ivory lace gown with the prettiest pearl capped sleeves. “I was going for delicately sexy,” she says, and my goodness, didn’t she just nail it! The autumn Auckland air called for something to keep the chill off, and her grandmother’s cream fur did the job beautifully. Her bridesmaids looked lovely in mismatching dresses “in soft feminine colours with that little bit of sparkle”.
Danielle and Luke were lucky enough to have the groom’s own mum – celebrant, Joanna Heyhoe – officiate their ceremony in the tiny old settler’s church at Kumeu. What better way to ensure the formalities feel natural and genuine. “Our ideal wedding was to be relaxed, comfortable, beautiful, soft, and amongst green pastures,” says the bride. “Most importantly, we wanted our guests to feel at home.”
