We love a wedding that you can genuinely call ‘relaxed’. Ellie & Ollie took a refreshingly laid back approach to their wedding, preferring to focus their energies on sharing a wonderful day with their guests than fussing over endless decorations and details.
Ellie tells us their simple ceremony in Edinburgh Gardens was light hearted, funny and very personal. “We didn’t decorate the gardens as weren’t there long and it would have meant extra organising which we couldn’t be bothered with! As long as there was an ample supply of booze, we knew guests would be happy.”
While decorations might have been sparse, Ellie made one hell of a statement in her lace mesh Carla Zampatti gown and insanely beautiful bouquet. Ellie had all faith in her florist, the impossibly talented Petra from Pomp & Splendour, and happily gave her free reign over floral design. Needless to say she was delighted with her bouquet; a wild mix of feathery pastels and striking, unstructured foliage.
After the ceremony, the party travelled up the road to Pope Joan; a favourite breakfast spot for Ellie and Ollie. Great food and a relaxed atmosphere were top priorities, and the northside café proved to be the perfect choice. Ellie says “Marek at Pope Joan did a great job from the first meeting. He was flexible with what we wanted, got particular booze in especially and made sure Ollie and I were happy throughout the night. The food was clean, fresh and delicious which was important to us.” Many guests had travelled from interstate and overseas, so the couple opted not to have table seating, to allow everyone to move around and catch up.
And since an awesomely down to earth wedding needs an awesomely down to earth photographer, Lucy Spartalis was an easy choice to capture the day. The couple loved her natural, candid approach and tell me they’ll treasure their gorgeous pics for many years to come.
