Glasshaus, a working nursery in the Melbourne suburb of Cremorne, was the ideal location for Brit and Dylan who wanted to keep their nuptials “contemporary and unfussy”.

“It was the first and only place we visited and it fit the bill: a bit quirky, not too formal, and wouldn’t need a whole lot of extra decoration. As a working nursery, it is a bit rough around the edges, just like us,” the couple share.

Motta Weddings had a field day capturing the happy couple and their guests in the airy, light-filled space. Brit and Dylan liken photographer Alex’s MO to that of a ninja, advising, “If you don’t want lots of posed shots, Alex is your man!”

Brit’s delicate lace gown with its split skirt, scalloped neckline and three quarter sleeves from Lover the Label fit her brief – “an elegant dress that would reflect the significance of the day, but that wouldn’t look out of place in a casual setting.” With Dylan sporting a blue mohair blend suit by Oscar Hunt this couple looked suitably stylish yet relaxed and ready to party.

“We wanted it to feel more like a modern party than a performance. There was no first dance, no bouquet toss, or anything involving a garter, and no groomsmen or bridesmaids… Very early on we made the decision to strip it right back to the bare elements – a meaningful ceremony, eating, drinking, good music, good friends, good times.” Hear hear!

With so much greenery there really was no need for elaborate decorations - just a few personal touches such as these modern wooden signs which Brit and Dylan made themselves, and fruit on the tables to provide a pop of colour.

Celebrant Hope Oliver, a long time friend of the groom, put together a ceremony which the couple said was perfectly aligned with their values and ideas about marriage. They describe Hope as “both super organised and super zen, a rare combo!”

Brit and Dylan went without flowers and instead said “I do” surrounded by Glasshaus' resident foliage. “We love flowers but it didn’t really make sense to us given the setting was already so lush,” they explain.

The couple kept the catering casual with delicious and plentiful food from Vietnamese food truck Lil’ Nomnoms, followed by cupcakes from Cupcake Central and a surprise treat of gelato from Short Batch Ice Cream Co. “We wanted guests to be able to enjoy some light, summery food that was easy to handle standing up,” they say.
