We’re no strangers to a DIY wedding, but we’ve never seen one couple take on as many projects as Kathleen and Dan did for their rustic barn wedding. These two wanted their big day to be a fun and relaxed affair, full of personal details, so they opted to style and create everything themselves… and we mean everything. Kathleen designed a wedding logo that was used to brand every element of the day, from the, stationery, to stubby holders, to cushions, pizza boxes, goodie bags… the list goes on!

With the help of family and friends, the barn took three days to setup. The venue was furnished with custom made tables, picnic rugs, hay bales and blankets as well as giant lawn games including Chess, Jenga, Connect 4 and Bocce. Kathleen tells me “We loved the concept of a country/vintage wedding where we could start with a blank canvas and bring to life a memorable day for each other and our guests in a way that showed both of our personalities.”

After such an epic setup, it was important for the couple to start the big day in a relaxed fashion. Dan kicked things off with a surf at a local spot with a dozen of his mates while Kathleen’s bridesmaids ensured she started the day calm with a surprise private yoga class.

Kathleen paired her stunning Rachel Gilbert gown with pearl and crystal jewellery that she made herself (of course!) and a spectacular bouquet by Moss Industry. Her bridesmaids looked gorgeous in Anna Campbell strapless dresses in different pastel shades.

James Looker was the man behind the lens and tells me “The coast-meets-country is one of my favourite settings for a wedding. Kath and Dan put in a massive amount of effort, down to every last tiny detail. I’ve never seen a wedding where every single thing at the wedding was branded with their own cute logo!” (Check out another gorgeous wedding by James here.)
