Belinda & Ali’s Colourful DIY Wedding

May 6, 2014
British-born Alistair and small town Queensland girl, Belinda met at the tail-end of a music festival while Belinda was living in the UK. Despite being a little worse for wear, the two of them bonded over the retro tunes of the Guilty Pleasure’s dance tent, and so began their story. The couple now live in Sydney but chose a quaint B&B in Queensland for their colourful DIY wedding, in order to be close to Belinda’s family.
A graphic designer, Belinda had no shortage of creative ideas for her big day and didn’t shy away from a bit of DIY. Obsessed with colour, kitsch and all things vintage, her approach was eclectic, to say the least. Rainbow bunting and pompoms decorated the property, while a kaleidoscope of hanging paper gems formed the ceremony backdrop. Belinda created floral arrangements with flowers purchased from the market the day before, and made her bouquet and Ali’s boutonniere from colourful felt pompoms. The DIY bride admits she was a little ambitious in the projects she took on, and held a champagne-fuelled crafternoon with friends to get the job done.
“Fortunately we have friends and family more organised than ourselves, so they kept us on the straight and narrow! Even then, we were still deciding on the first dance two nights before we flew to QLD, and our speeches got written on the morning of the wedding!”
Belinda had her heart set on a vintage wedding dress, but after many unsuccessful shopping ventures to vintage stores in Sydney, Brisbane and London, conceded it was not to be. Fortunately she found the dress of her dreams courtesy of Lover’s sensational White Magik collection. Gold Miista Shona gladiator heels and a vintage bracelet completed the look. Ali, meanwhile, looked very dapper in a blue Reiss suit and mustard bow tie from April Look.
Sayher Heffernan was there to capture the day in all its vintage rainbow goodness, and comes with glowing praise from Belinda and Ali. “Seyher was fantastic! We hardly knew he was there on the day; he flew very much under the radar but captured all the beautiful moments that we wanted captured. We would highly recommend him!”

I wish my wedding will look like this because I have always loved nature and the outdoors. The colors are also perfect. I love the pictures! 🙂
